On this video we share a special quartet of Susan Blosser (soprano), Leah Trigg (alto and music director), Dan Blosser (tenor) and Dean Phelps (bass) from Southport Christian Church, Indianapolis, sharing in the 19th century spiritual, “Down to the River to Pray.” This was recorded on January 6, 2013 on the special occasion of the last Sunday morning worship where Dean was able to sing as part of the quartet before moving to Oklahoma in January 2012.
We’ve had requests for the prayer from Sunday DisciplesNet worship #115, addressing the violence against children in China and the USA the previous Friday, December 14, 2012. This is the prayer which we hope will bring peace to you.
Background music, “O Come Little Children” is played by Pam Barksdale, and special photo is by Michelle Soruco, taken at the Southport Equestrian Center in Indianapolis.
We invite you to join us with your own prayers as you watch this video. If you would like to share your prayers, please feel free to comment on this post.
This prayer was written by Rev. Linda Parker, pastor, Eastside Christian Church, Evansville, IN, USA. It is read by Susan McNeely, DisciplesNet Church.
We invite you to join us Twana Harris and Dean Phelps, both ordained pastors and gifted musicians, as they sing, “It is Well With My Soul” for our DisciplesNet viewers from our DisciplesNet studio. This favorite song of faith has inspired millions since it was written by Horatio Spafford in 1873. If you wish, we hope you join Twana and Dean in singing, either in aloud or from within

DisciplesNet Church invites you to join us for a moment of worship through this uplifting reminder, “He’s Got the Wold World in His Hands” and “This is My Father’s World.” This is sung by the talented chancel choir of Southport Christian Church ( Disciple of Christ) Indianapolis, with Leah Trigg directing and Sue Dykes on piano, and 4-year old guest soloist. This arrangement is by Joel Raney, and used by permission granted by Christian Copyright Solution’s Worship Cast License. Video editing by DisciplesNet Church.
Two of our favorite singers, Twana Harris and Phoebe Spier, came into our studio having never met before and sat down to sing this well-loved Thomas Dorsey song for our DisciplesNet.
Videoediting is by youth video intern Joy Torrence, supported by grants from Reconciliation Ministries and the Canfield Memorial Trust of Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Indianapolis.
Rev. Dr. Twana A. Harris sings “Lord, I just can’t keep from crying,” written by “Blind Willie Johnson” on this short prayer video that includes photos, video, and scripture.
What do you do when something in life has happened that is heart-wrenching, and leaves us where not knowing what to do, except to cry with all we have within us? What if this happens when you are not able to get to a physical church to pray? We hope that our video may help a small amount for you. DisciplesNet is a church on the internet, crossing barriers and boundaries to share the Good News of God’s redeeming love, and we have created this video for just such times. .
We believe that in each of our deepest sorrow and trouble, that God is there, enfolding us in love, hearing our cries and seeing our tears that fall, while wanting us to know that we are not alone. In the Bible, our cries of sorrow, and pain are called a lament. The Bible’s Lamentations is a book about sharing our tears, sorrow, and grief when God in our toughest times. Laments can help us in our road to healing and wholeness.
This short video is also a prayer of lament, a gift shared by Reverend Doctor Twana A. Harris, singing for all who may be able to use the video to help share with God their own pain, sadness, and grief. Perhaps it could help you if you are in the position of great sorrow but not knowing where or how to begin.
If you have come here in a time of trouble and sorrow, we would like you to know that DisciplesNet Church cares, too, and has prayed for all who join us out of such a difficult time in your life. We pray that you may feel the love of God enfolding you in your sorrow, and sense the healing Spirit that comes from sharing your tears with God.
Wishing you peace,
Pastors at DisciplesNet Church
DisciplesNet exists to share God’s love over the internet, especially for people who are feeling disconnected from church and communities of faith.
Songs on DisciplesNet are covered by our Worship Cast license.
Here at DisciplesNet we have a team of youth who are working as video interns, learning, teaching, and just helping us explore how video can be used to connect people in ministry. Lately each has been working to create short videos that could bring peace or inspiration to those of you out there who will connect with us, or can pass these works along to. This is the latest offering, from rising 9th-grader Francisco. He uses many of his own photos, and lyrics of the beautiful “Yo te Busco” (Lord I Seek you: in the three language worlds he navigates: Spanish, English, and some “twittish” thrown in for good measure. His father is doing the singing. Thanks so much, Francisco, for your gift; we hope it will be a blessing to all who view this and pass it along.
