On Eagles Wings

We invite you to join us in the uplifting song, “On Eagles Wings.” This is sung by two pastor-musicians, Twana Harris and Dean Phelps, who came to our DIsicplesNet studio to sing hymns and spiritual songs for our DisciplesNet audience around the world. We hope that you will be uplifted in listening, and singing along if you would like. After the song you will find the scripture reading that the song was written about: Isaiah 40:28-31.
This video has a special Dedication to persons struggling in the aftermath of the May 2013 tornadoes in Oklahoma as this video was being created, as well as all others who are dealing with the storms of life.

DisciplesNet is an online church and ministry that reaches out using the internet, crossing barriers and boundaries to share the Good News of God’s love. We believe that God’s love is for all people without exception, including people who may not be able to be part of a traditional church. We are learning as we go, and appreciate your patience in the places where our videos are not perfect.

It is our prayer that you are uplifted by watching the video and will share it with any you know who could benefit from seeing it.

DisciplesNet operates on the gifts of volunteer donors who are helping us to grow and expand our ministry.

The Gift of Pentecost, 2013 revision

Welcome to “The Gift of Pentecost,” a special 12-minutes to follow and share in celebration of Pentecost and the birthday of the church.  This video is the 2013 update of the video originally created by DisciplesNet Church  to go around the world sharing the good news of God’s redeeming love.

After reading Acts 2:1-12, our video takes us on a journey around the world where our readers join together to remind us of Jesus’ commandment: John 13:34-35.  Look for this verse read by individuals in nine decades of life, in 17 languages, and covering five continents.

Background for the readings are the instrumental and voice recordings of “The Gift of Love,” performed by Dean Phelps, with opportunity we hope you will take to join in singing the verses.

Some special offerings on this are readings by general staff members of the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, who helped out by reading for us. This includes Rev. Dr. Sharon Watkins,  of the  of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the US and Canada; Rev. Dr. Geunhee Yu (retired, NAPAD), Rev. Amy Gopp (Week of Compassion), and Rev. Sandra Gourdet (Area Executive, Africa Office, of Church World Service); and Rev. Ilumbe Ndjongo, PSP Mbandaka District, Communitè des Disciples du Christ au Congo) and Rosette Matezolo, Chair of the Indiana-Mbandaka Partnership Committee, CDCC). We are deeply indebted to all of our readers; for some, participating on this was done with conviction, and names used or not used by request.
Special thanks to Susan McNeely and Bob Shaw with help in recording this on three continents, and on their  trip to Congo as part of the partnership with the Indiana Region and Mbandaka district (Congo) of Disciples of Christ, and to VJ Stover for sharing his photos from this trip.
Still, we couldn’t include all countries, and apologize if you don’t get to hear your native language…maybe next year we will be able to include yours!

We pray that you will be blessed by sharing in this time with us, and give thanks to God for bringing us together in this one place on this special time called Pentecost. May Pentecost and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit live in you beyond this day or the viewing of this video, into each and every day of your life.

This video was made possible by gifts of persons such as yourself who contribute to DisciplesNet, a nonprofit church with its hub in Indianapolis, IN, USA.
Gifts can be made on the DisciplesNet website, www.disciplesnet.org, under ‘Giving.’   Gifts designated to the Pentecost offering can be made through DisciplesNet Church, or disciples.org, Giving.

A Psalm for “Times I Feel Lost”

This is a paraphrase of the 23rd Psalm, intended especially for meditation when you are feeling lost. It was written by Peggy McMahon and appears in her book, Father, Hear My Psalms. The music is “Day by Day”, written by Karolina Sandell-Berg in 1865 and arranged and played by Beverly Carmichael Heid.

The words are these:

The Lord is my pathfinder, I shall not lose my way.
He makes me lie down in meadows of summer bloom;
He leads me to still waters where I drink from his cup.

He restores me in purpose; He leads me to find meaning
in the smallest of offerings.

Yea, though I walk through the canyon of deepest dark,
I am not lost.
For the light of your heart’s love is never extinguished,
Your nearness is never absent.

You prepare a sanctuary for me in the deep of the canyon walls,
I receive your true Word.
You anoint my head with belongingness,
my heart entrains to the pulse of Your heavenly voice.
I hear You call my name and I shall answer.

Surely all courage and direction shall be with me
all the days of my life;
And I shall dwell in the presence of the Lord forever.
Amen.
