Welcome to a special worship, celebrating Pentecost. We are especially honored to have bringing our message Rev. Sandra Gourdet, Area Executive of Overseas Miniistries, Africa Division.  Rev. Gourdet is known and loved for her lifetime of service around the world and her wisdom, among many other things. In our message today, “Out of Hiding,” Rev. Gourdet speaks of the church in Mozambique.
Our time together, 30 minutes, includes prayer, scripture, singing, and listening to the word together with people in times and places all around the world.  This week we offer the special gospel song, “Paul and Silas bound in Jail,” sung by Dean Phelps, and special gifts of the Southport Christian Church praise band.
As we do every week, our time together includes a time of communion (breaking of the bread) where you may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus’ invitation to “do this in remembrance of me.”
If you would like to share with us at the table that defies all boundaries of time, place, and structure, then we ask that you prepare a wafer, cracker, or bread and a drink.  As we pray, we are praying that our blessing extends to where you are.  If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us.  (Scroll down for an Order of Worship)

The Gift of Pentecost, 2013 revision

Welcome to “The Gift of Pentecost,” a special 12-minutes to follow and share in celebration of Pentecost and the birthday of the church.  This video is the 2013 update of the video originally created by DisciplesNet Church  to go around the world sharing the good news of God’s redeeming love.

After reading Acts 2:1-12, our video takes us on a journey around the world where our readers join together to remind us of Jesus’ commandment: John 13:34-35.  Look for this verse read by individuals in nine decades of life, in 17 languages, and covering five continents.

Background for the readings are the instrumental and voice recordings of “The Gift of Love,” performed by Dean Phelps, with opportunity we hope you will take to join in singing the verses.

Some special offerings on this are readings by general staff members of the Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, who helped out by reading for us. This includes Rev. Dr. Sharon Watkins,  of the  of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in the US and Canada; Rev. Dr. Geunhee Yu (retired, NAPAD), Rev. Amy Gopp (Week of Compassion), and Rev. Sandra Gourdet (Area Executive, Africa Office, of Church World Service); and Rev. Ilumbe Ndjongo, PSP Mbandaka District, Communitè des Disciples du Christ au Congo) and Rosette Matezolo, Chair of the Indiana-Mbandaka Partnership Committee, CDCC). We are deeply indebted to all of our readers; for some, participating on this was done with conviction, and names used or not used by request.
Special thanks to Susan McNeely and Bob Shaw with help in recording this on three continents, and on their  trip to Congo as part of the partnership with the Indiana Region and Mbandaka district (Congo) of Disciples of Christ, and to VJ Stover for sharing his photos from this trip.

DisciplesNet Worship #136, “May The Scales Fall From My Eyes,” (Borschel, 04.14.2013)

Welcome to this week’s DisciplesNet worship experience! This week’s worship continues to grow out of the Easter story.  In “May the Scales Fall From My Eyes,” Rev. Audrey Borschel gives us a special look at a man called Saul who was about to have a life-changing experience on the road to Damascus. The experience of Saul, who would become known to the world as the Apostle Paul, would not only change his life, but the world, as he faithfully gave the remainder of his life to living for the one he had been persecuting.

DisciplesNet Worship #135, “Easter, Page Two”(Nirmal 04.07.2013)

Welcome to this week’s DisciplesNet worship experience!
For the Sunday following Easter Sunday, the church traditionally looks at the story of Jesus’ disciples as they begin to have meetings with the risen Jesus.  From these post-resurrection appearances, the disciples began to better comprehend what had happened with Jesus’ crucifixion, resurrection, and expectation now that they as Jesus’ disciples carry on his work of sharing the Good News of God’s love and redeeming grace with the world.  This Sunday traditionally focuses especially upon disciple Thomas, who had been absent when Jesus’ appeared to his disciples hiding behind closed doors.  Thomas picked up the nickname, “doubting Thomas” from his exclamation that he would have to put his hands in the scars on Jesus’ hands and side to believe that it was really Jesus.
Tradition also has it that as the disciples spread out to share the Good News as Jesus instructed, Thomas went eastward, including to India.
This Sunday DisciplesNet Church is especially blessed to have our sermon message delivered to us by DisciplesNet team member, Rahul Nirmal, from his home in India. We hope you will join us now as Minister Nirmal challenges us to put ourselves in some of some of the post-resurrection scenes as we come to understand the place that Jesus has in our own lives today.

If you would like to share with us at the table that defies all boundaries of time, place, and structure, then we ask that you prepare a wafer, cracker, or bread and a drink.  As we pray, we are praying that our blessing extends to where you are.  If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us.  (Scroll down for an Order of Worship)

Pastor’s Prayer:

Wise and powerful God, we come to give you praise this day. We
gather to hear again the good news handed from generation to generation
that death has been overcome, and sorrow and tears are no more; for
you have demonstrated your compassionate care for us in the dramatic
delivery of Jesus from the tomb.
