DisciplesNet is a church and congregation that was founded in 2010 by a group of ordained ministers and other leaders, mostly volunteering their gifts.  We were officially recognized in 2010  and included in the yearbook of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) as a church.  Yes, we have non-profit status. We operate mostly through donations of followers and grants.  We work to be extremely careful with gifts shared with us so it goes back into ministry where it will do the most good.

Although we operate mostly online with our congregation around the world, we worship each week physically at our Indianapolis worship center, or hub.  While worshipping we video that worship; then we we video-edit this into a worship video that we post online.  In this way, we extend our reach to our wider congregation so that they may participate with us.   This gives an interesting consideration of time and place, but we have just settled on understanding that as we come together to worship, we are all in God’s presence together, and that is the main place we want to be.

As with other Disciples of Christ congregations, we govern ourselves while also working with the greater Disciples of Christ, sharing gifts and resources such as Week of Compassion, Global Ministries, conferences and assemblies.  As Disciples of Christ we share the identity statement: ”We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world.  As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.”At DisciplesNet we see that we are disciples first.  We share our Disciples’ identity not as a point of pridefulness, but as an expectation that people should be able to have of how we treat people and work together despite a challenging, broad range of opinions, beliefs, and personal and political views that we together hold.

The Disciples are strongly ecumenical. This churchy word simply means that Disciples strongly value working and sharing ministry with other churches and people of faith, working side by side.  We don’t try to convince people to all believe the same or have the same opinion, but just work and worship together in respect and love.

We hope you will find yourself feeling welcome here whether you come from a Disciples’ tradition, another tradition, or no specific tradition.  We welcome you if you aren’t sure what to believe, or even if you believe.  You may notice we use a trademark, the red Disciples chalice on our site.  We like to say that the wide brim is an important symbol of that wide table where we can all gather as Christ calls.  The sideways cross on the chalice is the St. Andrew’s cross, named after the disciple Andrew who ran to tell his brother the Good News after he had met Jesus.  Tradition has it that Andrew was crucified on such as side-ways cross.  We like to think of this cross as the cross of not keeping your faith to yourself, but spending your life to sharing it with others in need.
