Sometimes really bad things happen. Sometimes it's a flood or a hurricane. Sometimes, even worse, it's because someone who has power does things that hurt people. In the story for today, Joseph, Mary, and Jesus fled their home country and went to Egypt to avoid King Herod, who thought that Jesus was a threat to him and wanted to kill him. The thing to realize here is that sometimes God doesn't just stop bad things from happening. Sometimes God helps us to find a way out of bad things that happen. So, let's pray together now that, when God does warn us of something we need to avoid, we'll hear and understand it.

God, we thank you that you do send us warnings when we need to avoid some dangerous things. We thank you for Jesus that showed us how to listen to you and we thank you for the teachers and parents that also show us how to listen to you. Help us to show your love for others, especially those who have had to leave their homes because of bad things that have happened to them.
We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
