Table Meditation (Gospel) for 31-December-17
31-December-17
The gospel story today tells us of Simeon, who waited at the Temple awaiting a glimpse of God's promised Messiah. When he saw Jesus, he took him in his arms and praised God, saying, "my eyes have seen your salvation." In a few moments, we'll have our own opportunity to see God's salvation, laid out for us in the symbols of bread and cup. Each week we are reminded that God came to us as a light of revelation and we celebrate his saving power here at the Table.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
God, who sent your Son to us to teach us and to bring us salvation, we thank you for that greatest of gifts, which we have seen and held in our minds and hearts. We thank you for these symbols of bread and cup to remind us of your love for us. We pray that, like Simeon, we would receive these gifts gladly and go from here to tell our world that we have seen your salvation.
In the name of Jesus, our Christ, AMEN
