3-Jan-16
John reminds us, in our gospel reading for today, that no one has ever seen God. In order for us to truly understand God, we need to look at Jesus. Jesus shows us how to live a life dedicated to God. He also shows us how much God loves us in the very act that we celebrate at this table: God loved us so much that sin and death could not be allowed to stand between us. So Christ came and died that we might live. We remember that greatest of gifts here at the table.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
God whose love knows no bounds and will not fail to draw us to you, we thank you that Jesus came to live our your word for us and to give us the gift of eternal life in him. We thank you for these symbols of bread and cup that remind us of how much he gave to make that so.
As we take the bread and cup, fill us anew with your Spirit that we may carry the word, in our words and actions, into your world.
In the name of Jesus, our Savior, Amen.
