Table Meditation (Gospel) for 21-Oct-18
21-Oct-18
Jesus reminded the disciples, in our scripture from the gospels for today, that we are not to be lords and tyrants toward each other, but servants. As we come to the Table, we too need to remember that we all come as sinners in need of the forgiveness of God and each other, that we are all adopted children and thus equals in the eyes of God. So we should be with each other.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
God who did not choose to lord over us but took on the form of a servant and friend, you have showed us the way to be servants of each other through your Son Jesus. Let us put aside our need for rank and power and receive through your servant that greatest of gifts, abundant life, forgiveness, and grace. We do not know if we will be called to drink that cup that you had to drink, to be obedient to death, but as we take this cup and this bread, remind us that you did that so that we could be a part of your family. As we receive these symbols of your grace, let us also receive the task of sharing the Good News of your love into the world with us.
In the name of Jesus, our Christ, Amen.
