Table Meditation (Epistle) for 12-Aug-18
12-Aug-18
Do you remember learning "table manners?". When did you learn the proper ways to act and to share food with others? Chances are, it was around a dinner table with your family, being taught by your parent or guardian. We learn the manners of the table by watching the one who brought us there.
In the scripture from Ephesians for today, Paul says, "Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us..." At this Table, we learn our manners from our Host, our Lord Jesus Christ. We imitate Jesus by loving each other and giving ourselves in service to each other.
Let us pray.
Prayer:
God, who loves us enough to give everything that we might join you at this Table and the one to come, we thank you for Jesus, our great example and the Host that draws us from all times and places to your Table. We thank you for this bread and cup, symbols that remind us that the true bread of life and cup of salvation is with us now, binding us together with the love that nothing can separate us from.
As we take this bread and cup, pour out your Spirit upon us as well, that we can share the Good News of your love, in word and deeds, with all those we meet in the week ahead.
In the name of Jesus, our Christ, AMEN
