The gospel story for today is about one of the great miracles of Jesus, the raising of a dead man. We may not see such a great miracle here today -- we may never see such a thing. However, we are about to see a miracle so common that we often take it for granted. We are about to see the people of God, called from every walk of life, every race, diverse in every way, gather together as our Lord, our host calls us.
Let us pray.
God, who is Lord of all people, in all places, and in all times, help us to appreciate the miracle it is for us to simply gather together. We thank you for Jesus, who taught us how to love you and each other and who died to show us the depth of your love and grace. We thank you for these symbols of bread and cup that remind us of how much he gave to bring us together.
Now, as we take the bread and cup, fill us again with your Holy Spirit, that we will carry with us the unity of purpose and of heart that will show you to our world.
In the name of Jesus, our Risen Lord, Amen.
