Embracing Change, Life Transitions, and Seeking Rainbows – A Devotion by Marci McGowan
God continued, “This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living being around you and everyone living after you. I’m putting my rainbow in the clouds, a sign of the covenant between me and the Earth. From now on, when I form a cloud over the Earth and the rainbow appears in the cloud; I’ll remember the covenant between me and you and everything living, that never again will floodwaters destroy all of life. When the rainbow appears in the cloud, I’ll see it and remember the eternal covenant between God and everything living, every last living creature of Earth.
Genesis 9:11-13 (The Message Bible)
She
Walks in beauty amidst the starry skies
In Truth,
Grace, and
Strength
Gliding across the dark and nightly skies,
She shines
Cycally, telling of birth, death, renewal, and
Mourning and grieving, in her normalcy of life.
She shines in the
Waxing
Waning
New moon
Full moon
And tidally goes on, faithfully night after night
Amidst her current status of “Shine on.”
He is the Sun,
That shines forth from the morning tide on toward
The eventide of the evening and twilight,
He announces the moon in her utter brilliance
In whatever her current form she may be
And in the sunness and moonness of all living things
A hymn breathes forth
Of that is just be.
The only constant thing in life seems to be change, biig or small. It is the nature of life. It is the nature of work. There is also a sameness of everyday routine in work. The more things change, the more they can seem to be the same. Such is the nature of work and life. There have been a lot of things going. My parents purchased the house next door to us. This is the last place they will be during this part of their life's journey. They moved in their “new to them,” place this week. They are still sorting through items, trying to find everything, and deciding on what to keep, what to toss, and what to give away. My Dad had some new sod planted in their yard last week. He has to water the yard twice a day, so the sod does not rot. I like it when he waters in the evening. If I sit in a certain place, I can see “sprinkler-induced” rainbows. This effect happens when the water spray hits the sunlight at a certain angle. The rainbows I have seen have been large and small. When my mom asks me why I am sitting on the porch, I will tell her that I am “looking for rainbows.” Rainbows are formed when light from the sun is scattered by water droplets through a process called refraction. Refraction occurs when the light from the sun changes direction when passing through a medium denser than air, such as a raindrop. It is fun to watch these “sprinkler-induced” rainbows when my dad is watering his yard. All of the necessary ingredients to make a rainbow are there: water droplets, spray and sunlight. If it is cloudy, rainbows will not be seen.
There have been transitions at work as well. My workplace is getting a new meal app. An app is an application that is downloaded by a user to a mobile device. This transaction will reduce paperwork and hopefully streamline the employee lunch ordering. This new app approach sounds like a positive development in the workplace. As with anything, It will take some time to even things out to ensure a smooth-running process. The app is a sign of the ever changing and evolving technology of the times. While it is exciting to have new things happen, it can also feel like I am on an endless rotating wheel. That is when I need to stop and breath and deliberately find rainbows, however big or small they are.
I am still continuing to seek rainbows, in any size, shape or form.
Much love and life,
And continued blessings,
Marci
