Children’s Moment for 5-May-19
5-May-19
Have you ever had to be asked to do something more than once? What are some of those things you mom or dad or teacher had to ask you to do twice?
Sometimes we just need a reminder. Sometimes we need to know that we'll have help to do it. Sometimes we think things have changed and we don't need to do it anymore.
All of those were true of the disciples after Jesus had died. They remembered that he had told them that they needed to tell people about Jesus and about what he taught them, but he died and they weren't sure they could do that anymore. They weren't sure that they'd be able to do it without Jesus' help. Maybe some just needed to be reminded.
So Jesus met them on the shore. See, they'd gone back to fishing because they at least knew they could do that. Then Jesus appeared to them on the shore and, along with making them breakfast, told them that he would never really leave them. They could always pray to him and they could count on him to help them do what he'd asked them to do.
Sometimes, being a follower of Jesus is hard and we're not sure we can do it. Sometimes we forget. Sometimes we're not sure if God will help us.
Just like with the disciples, Jesus wants us to know that he'll always be around to help us do what he's asked us to do and to remind us to do it.
Let's pray about that.
God, we thank you that Jesus is always here to help us do what you want done, to share the Good News of your love for each and every person.
Remind us when we need reminding. Give us help when we're not sure how to do it. And most of all help us to know that you're always here with us.
Amen.
