20-Jun-21 (Mark 4:35-41)

Have you ever been in a really scary storm? I was, once when I was just a bit older than you. We were outside and the dark clouds came up so fast we didn't really know what what going on until the rain started pouring down. We ran for a safe place as fast as we could and we still got drenched.... and then the lightning came... and the thunder. It was pretty scary.
Jesus' disciples were in a storm like that and they were out in the middle of a lake with water all around them. Jesus was there, but he was sleeping in the back of the boat.
Just imagine that. Winds howling, waves crashing... and there's Jesus, asleep, in the back of the boat!
So they wake him up and they even say, "Don't you care? We might die here!
Jesus wakes up and then he tells the wind and the waves to be calm... and they do it! Wow!
Now I'll have to say that something Jesus calming the wind and waves has never happened to me. But I will say that Jesus has helped me stay calm when things are going wild around me and that's a lot of help in those situations.
So, the next time you're in a situation that's just way more than you can handle. Remember, Jesus is not only right there with you, but Jesus is able to help you stay calm and work your way through it.
Let's talk to God about that.
God, we thank you that you gave us Jesus to help us to stay calm when everything around us isn't. Help us to remember that you love us and will be with us in those times. Help us also to help others to be calm in those situations as well.
We pray in Jesus' name.
