Children’s Moment for Proper B27 – 07-Nov-21
07-Nov-21 (Luke 20:27-38)
Have you ever heard someone say, "That's a stupid question."? I had a teacher who once said, "The only really stupid question is one you already know that answer to and are just asking to trick the teacher." That's exactly what the Sadducees that came to Jesus in our gospel story for today were trying to do. They really didn't think there was an answer to their question. They just wanted to trick Jesus.
Jesus didn't say, "That's a stupid question." He actually answered them as if they really wanted to know the answer. Jesus was saying to them, "This wouldn't be a trick question or a stupid question if you really wanted to know the answer."
And that's true for God as well. There are no stupid questions about God as long as you really want to know the answer. Always be sure that God won't be irritated with you or snap at you if you come to God with questions that you really want to know the answer to. We adults may not always be as gracious as that, but we'll try.
Let's talk to God right now and let's talk to God about that.
Prayer
God, we thank you for sending us Jesus to show us that you want us to know all we can about you. Help us to come to you with the questions we really want to know about. Help us to help other who come with questions about you to find the answers they need.
We pray in Jesus' name. AMEN
