Offering Meditation for Epiphany A6 – 15-Feb-26
15-Feb-26 (Matthew 5:21-37)
In our passage for today, Jesus is speaking about the ways that our actions have impact on the lives of others around us. He says, for instance, that even being verbally cruel to others can harm them to the extent that it should be ranked with murder!
The truth is that people not only judge us based on our actions but also judge our faith and our God. If we seek to help others in need, they can see a God who loves them. If they see us working for just treatment of people without power and influence, they can see a God who loves all people, one who doesn't play favorites.
The time of offering is our opportunity to put our money where our hearts are. To support those actions, both nearby and far away, that show the world that we truly believe in a God who loves.
Prayer:
Please join me now in a spirit of prayer.
God who loves all of us, thank you for the example of Jesus who taught and acted in love for those around him, especially those who were likely to be forgotten.
We pray for these offerings, that they would be put to use in ways that reveal your love to people who are in such need of it. We pray for ourselves as well, that you grow our generosity and though our words and deed, communicate your love in this world.
We pray in the name of Jesus, our Lord, Amen.
