Offering Meditation for Lent 4a – 15-March-26
15-March-26 (John 9:1-41)
The writer of John doesn't have a lot of patience for these Pharisees, mostly because something amazing was happening right before their eyes and many of them tried to figure out what was wrong with it. Jesus even tells them that they are deliberately not seeing.
Surely, we get the point... or do we? What are the things that are happening right before our eyes that we choose not to see?
What about the woman at the grocery store in front of us who had to tearfully put back a few items because she couldn't afford them? What about the folks half-way across the world from us who are living in fear because of the bombs falling around them? What about the person we saw crying by themselves? What about that person who's been in the hospital several times and is back there today?
Do we see them? Do we take the time and effort to show them God's love for them in concrete actions? I'll leave that for each of you to decide how much you're letting yourself see.
So, now we come to the time of offering, when we have the opportunity to give from our own resources to help meet the needs of those who need to see God's love in action.
Will you see this opportunity?
Prayer:
Please join me in a spirt of prayer.
God of us all, we remember your Son, who came to show us your love in action in our world. Help us to do the same, giving of our time, our money, and our efforts so that others will experience your love in the ways they need to see it.
Help us to see them. Help us not to turn a "blind eye." Help us to see them as your beloved children as you do.
We pray in the name of Jesus, the Christ, AMEN.
