Offering Meditation for Proper 12a – 26-July-26
26-July-26 (Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52)
Jesus talks a lot about hidden treasures in the passages for today, things of surprising value concealed so they aren't obvious. I think the spiritual practice of giving an offering is like that. On the surface, it's part of supporting the Church and the work of God in our world. On the surface, it feels good to be a part of doing good things in the world.
But it's also something of immense value because, through the work done by our offerings, people in our world see concrete evidence of God's presence through us. It's an honor and a privilege to represent God in our world through what we do, through what we say, and through what we give.
Please consider giving generously so that others will see God in our work.
Prayer:
Please join me in a spirit of prayer.
God of all people everywhere, we thank you that you have honored us with the responsibility of representing you in our world. Bless us with generous hearts to give of ourselves and our resources to see that happen.
Bless these offerings as well, that they would be put to use in ways that bring light, and hope, and peace in our world and that people will be able to see you through the work they do.
We pray in Jesus' name, AMEN
