27-Sep-26 (Matthew 21:23-32)

Jesus' issue with those particular Pharisees was that they were good at doing certain forms of righteousness, but they failed to see the bigger picture, that of God's Realm coming into being because of acts of mercy and kindness. They kept the Law, but failed to see the attitudes towards others, especially those who were least likely to be able to return any favors, was more an indication of being close to God than any outward form.
As we worship today, we are keeping certain forms, but we must never lose sight of the fact that the one form we must keep is love toward our neighbors.
We do this in many ways, some of which are providing ways for the homeless to find a safe place to call home, those without enough food or clothing to get what they need. Those who are hurting and those who are sick and dying, to have someone to visit them and show care.
We're about to take up our offering for today. That's just one of the ways we can participate in this work, but it is an important one. Our offerings extend our reach to where we ourselves cannot go and extend our capabilities beyond what we ourselves can do.
Consider your part as the deacons come to collect the offering for today.
