Offering Meditation for Proper 23a – 11-October-26
11-Oct-26 (Philippians 4:1-9)
"Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is pleasing, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." The thing about thinking is that it should prompt action. So, if we are thinking of honorable things, we should be working to uphold the dignity and worth of all people. If we are thinking of what is just, we should be working to bring justice into our world, especially for those who are likely to be forgotten by the system. If we are thinking about "these things" we should also be doing these things.
So, it is that we come to our time of offering. This is one opportunity we have to put our thoughts into action, especially in that our offerings go to support work beyond what we personally can do.
As our deacons come to collect our offering for today, think about these things, and then do what you can.
Prayer:
Please join me in a spirit of prayer.
God who is the source of all good thing, all good thoughts, and prompter of good actions, we are blessed by the good that happens to us. Help us in gratitude to do good things for others, to share your love in action.
Bless this offering, that it would be put to use in ways that honor you and bring good to those who receive from its work.
We pray in the way of Jesus, AMEN
