Offering Meditation for Proper 8a – 28-June-26
28-June-26 (Genesis 22:1-14)
In the Old Testament reading for today, we come to the story of Abraham almost sacrificing Isaac. We're not going to be called to that kind of obedience, but we are called to be generous in our giving so that the needs of others can be met. We are called to be generous with our time and efforts so that the sick and dying will be visited and cared for. Sometimes the giving of our time, our efforts, and our resources seems like a lot, but it's done so that the love of God can be communicated in this world in concrete ways, in things that people can touch and feel.
So, consider how you would say, "Here I am Lord", when God calls you.
The deacons will now collect our offerings for today.
Prayer:
Please join me in a spirit of prayer.
God who reaches out to the least, the lost, those who are in need in so many ways, help us to be part of the way you respond to your children when they call for you. Help us to be able to say, "Here I am Lord" when you call.
Bless these offerings as well, that they would be put to use in ways that you could be proud of, in ways that bring your love to people who need to see it.
We pray this in Jesus' name, AMEN.
