Offering Meditation for Reign of Christ C – 23-November-25
23-Nov-25 (Luke 23:33-43)
When Jesus spoke to the thief next to him on the cross, he didn't ask him a series of questions to determine if he was worthy of grace. He simply gave it.
So it is with others in this world who are in need. The suffering, the hurting, the poor, the outcasts. It is not our job to determine if they're worthy to receive our care and compassion. We are called simply to give it.
Just as Jesus did to the thief on the cross, we are to give what we have to give, recognizing that the one next to us may well have made some bad decisions. Still, we are called to extend grace to them, recognizing that, most importantly of all, that one next to us is a beloved child of God, just as we are.
Consider that as the deacons come to collect our offering for today.
Please join me in a spirit of prayer.
God, who extends grace to all, because all are your beloved children, help us to exemplify your love in our words and deeds. Help us to give of ourselves and what we have freely, that the world will see your love in us.
We pray in Jesus' name.
AMEN.
