Jesus comes into our lives in some very unexpected ways. I'm sure that Joseph, before the angel visit, had some pretty clear ideas about his life and how God would be a part of it. After the visit, Joseph had a whole different set of ideas. We probably won't have as striking a change as Joseph's, but, as we come to the table and encounter our Lord here, we do have to be prepared for God to send us in some new directions.
Let us pray.
God who enters our lives in very unexpected ways, we pray that we will not be too hidebound to listen when you send us in down new paths. We thank you for the example of Joseph, who shows us how to welcome you into our lives. We thank you also for the example of Jesus, who showed us how to live for you and others. We thank you most of all, that Jesus was able to conquer sin and death for us on the cross.
As we take this bread and cup, symbols of the sacrifice that gives us life, renew your Spirit within us that we will carry that life with us into the world.
In the name of Jesus, our Risen Lord, Amen.
