18-May-25 Fifth Sunday of Easter (John 13:31-35)
In our gospel reading for today, Jesus tells his disciples the one thing that will allow them to be recognized as his disciples: That they have love for each other. There are many things we can do and are called to do as Christians, but the most important of these is to love God's children, all of them, every one of them.
As we come to the table, consider whether there are any barriers toward you showing God's love for God's other children. What would it take to lay that aside so that, when people saw you, they saw the love of God shining through you?
Let us pray.
Prayer:
God, who loves each and every one of us in every way, help us to represent you in the world by loving your other children. We thank you for the example that Jesus gave us of your limitless and unconditional love. We thank you for this bread and the cup, which are symbols of how much you were willing to give to make that love known to us.
Now, as we take the bread and cup, fill us again with your Spirit, that we may be instruments of your love in this world
In the name of Jesus, our Risen Lord, Amen.
