2-Jun-19 Seventh Sunday of Easter
We often hear Jesus' prayer "that they may be one" as a hope and a command to try to make it so. There's another truth: We are already one, because Christ has made us so. It may not always feel that way and it's definitely a reality we have to grow into, but the truth remains: We are already one.
As we come to the table now, look at those around you and think on all those who gather in every time and place.
We are already one.
Let us pray.
God, who brings all things together in Christ, we thank you that you have made us one in Christ. We thank you for Jesus who came to show us what being one with you and others looks like. We thank you that he was willing to give his own life to make it so and we thank you for this bread and cup that remind us of that.
As we take the bread and cup, fill us again with your Holy Spirit, that we might live before the world as one and that because of that, people will see you in us.
In the name of Jesus, our Risen Lord, Amen.
