Jesus left us with two great institutions: First, he taught us how to pray in that great example that we call the Lord's Prayer. Second, he taught us how to gather together here at the table. At the table we remember all that Jesus taught. We remember who he is. We remember that he gave his life for us to live abundantly. These two institutions are what energize, enlighten, and empower us to be God's representatives in our world.
Let us pray.
God who came to give us abundant life in Christ and, through us, share that life with the world, we thank you for Jesus. We thank you that he taught us how to pray and to live. We thank you that he gave his life to tear down the barriers of sin and death. We thank you for his open invitation to us all to this table where we remember all of that. We thank you for this bread and cup that symbolize his sacrifice and bring us together as we take it together.
Now, as we do that, fill us anew with your Spirit, that we may, energized, enlightened, and empowered, go out into your world and continue your work.
In the name of Jesus, our Risen Lord, Amen.
