7-Sep-25 (Luke 14:25-33)
We've been talking about the cost of discipleship, but we should also consider the cost of a world without disciples. That would be a world that would not hear of the love of God for them and all people. It would be a world where many were forgotten on the outskirts. It would be a world where the poor, the suffering, the hurting, and the lost would be "on their own," to make their ways as best they could.
In short, it would be a world where love was a fantasy and not a reality for most.
We can be thankful that we live in a world where people give generously of themselves and their resources. We can thankfully take our part in that world by giving of ourselves and of what we have.
Consider your part as our deacons come to take up the offering for today.
Prayer:
Please join me now in a spirit of prayer.
God who has placed such great resources in our hands and into our care, help us to have that same generous heart and give of what we are and what we have so others can have the food and shelter they need and know that there is a community and a God who cares for them.
Bless these gifts, that they would be put to good use in your work in the world.
We pray in the name of Jesus, our Risen Lord, Amen.
