DisciplesNet Worship #429: (Shaw 09.09.2018)

to watch this worship service on YouTube, click here.

We all have experiences in our lives when we feel alone. We all have experiences in our lives when we feel less than whole. Pastor Bob uses the scriptures from Isaiah 35:4-7 and Mark 7:31-37 to talk about these times and provide hope for God's presence and healing in our lives.
Our worship today is just over 34 minutes long and includes a time of prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, preaching as well as communion. You may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers extend to where you are. If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us.

When the religious leaders of Jesus' day criticized Jesus because his disciples hadn't washed their hands before eating, Jesus challenged them by speaking about how a spirit can be made clean. Pastor Russ uses this story from Mark 7:1-5, 14-15, 22-23 to examine how we can experience the cleanliness that comes from God in our own lives.
Our worship today is just over 27 minutes long and includes a time of prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, preaching as well as communion. "The Full Armor of God" is one of Paul's best analogies, but what do all those pieces of armor actually mean. Pastor Russ takes a look at Ephesians 6:11-17 and, usual examples of the Roman Armor of Paul's day, explains what Paul had in mind when he used it to describe the tools God has given us to live out our faith.

One of the great images from the scriptures is a Great Feast where all are welcome. In the Gospels, the Table of Christ picks up this image and carries it forward. Pastor Deb Phelps speaks from John 6:53-59 about how we as Christians join with people of all times and places at the Table of Christ.
Our worship today is just over 33 minutes long and includes a time of prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, preaching as well as communion. Is it OK to be angry? What is the proper place for anger and how can we be angry and still live as citizens of the realm of God? Pastor Bob uses both John 2:13-22 and Ephesians 4:25-29 to help us understand the place of anger in the lives of Christians.

What do we do with people who don't seem to be living out their faith in ways we can appreciate? What do we do with the difficult, the ornery, the hard cases? What can we do? On a lonely hill, far from any large city or town, over 5000 people were fed, starting from five loaves and two fishes. What does this miracle mean? How do we understand it for our lives today?
