DisciplesNet Worship #531: Proper 12 (Cobb 07.26.2020)

To watch this worship service on YouTube, click here.

"What are you asking?" Prayer is not magic and God is not a genie who grants you wishes. Pastor Anita looks at Solomon's prayer from 1 Kings 3:5-12 and helps us understand the purpose of pray and what pleases God when we ask for it.
Join us for 31 minutes of prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, preaching as well as communion. You may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers extend to where you are. If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us.

"Where can I go, to hide from your presence?" asks the Psalmist. Pastor Russ looks at Psalm 129 and the story of Jacob from Genesis 28:10-19a to help us remember that there is nowhere we can be that is apart from God. He also helps us recognize those ways in which we make it harder to sense God's constant presence.
Join us for 28 minutes of prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, preaching as well as communion. You may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." It's been said that "You can't please everyone." but sometimes those who find fault can really get you down. Not all of us are called to preach, but all of us are called to share what we know of God's love for all people. Sometimes that call on us is, as Jeremiah 20-7-13 describes it, like a fire within our bones that cannot be denied. Pastor Bob helps us understand that urgent call on us and how we can respond to it.
Join us for just over 30 minutes of prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, preaching as well as communion. "Look at the fields. They are ripe with harvest." Jesus told his disciples. That was true in their time, and Pastor Russ shows us that many of the same types of things that made that time just right for the disciples to go and share the Good News are also true of our own time. Even in a time of pandemic and raw aggression. The call from Matthew 9:35-38 still holds for those of us who are Jesus' disciples.
Join us for 30 minutes of prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, preaching as well as communion. Jesus told his disciples to "go into all the world." and throughout the 2000 years of Church history, disciples have done just that. But how can we do that in an era where pandemic and prejudice keep us apart? Pastor Deb talks about the "Great Commission" in Matthew 28:16-20 and helps us see the unique ways we can be Church in our times and places.
