DisciplesNet Worship #505: Epiphany+5 (Smith 02.09.2020)

In the physical world, nothing moves faster than light. However, even light takes time to travel. However, God's light and presence are both always near and instant in response. Pastor Russ looks at the speed of God's light using Matthew 5:14-15 and Isaiah 58:6-9a to help us understand how God always responds to our needs at a speed that exceeds our expectations.
Join us for 28 minutes of prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, preaching as well as communion. You may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers extend to where you are. If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us.

Is the Lord with us? It's a question every Christian asks at key times during the life of faith. Rev. Anjeanette Perkins uses Philippians 2:1-15 and Exodus 17:1-7 to examine how God is present in our lives and how we can expect to encounter God.

We all have experiences in our lives when we feel alone. We all have experiences in our lives when we feel less than whole. Pastor Bob uses the scriptures from Isaiah 35:4-7 and Mark 7:31-37 to talk about these times and provide hope for God's presence and healing in our lives.
Our worship today is just over 34 minutes long and includes a time of prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, preaching as well as communion. DisciplesNet Worship #343, “Seeing the Stranger” (Grogan 02.12.2017)

To watch this worship service on YouTube, click here.

The story of Hagar and Sarah is full of drama, sorrow, heartache, and surprise. But where does God show up in all of this? The question is important, because it also relates to our everyday lives. We hope that you will join us for this time of worship with time to reflect on God's word, and the peoples' response. Worship today is just over 30 minutes long, with scripture, prayer, singing along, an inspiring message by Pastor Amy. Whether you are worshipping as one, or in a group, as we come together we are the people of God together--and so glad that you are part.

As we do every week, our time together includes a time of communion (breaking of the bread) where you may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." We believe that Christ extends the invitation to all, and that we come not because we are wholly righteous, but that we are redeemed.
If you would like to share with us at the table we ask that you prepare a piece of a type of bread for you, and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers are given to extend to where you are.
If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us. (Scroll down for an Order of Worship)

The problem is as old as people's belief in God: "Where is God when people are suffering?" We confront this question head on in worship this week, using the story of Job and insightful words from Revs. Russ Smith and Bob Shaw, and in song, prayer, scripture, and communion. Continue reading →
