The Bringer, a message of Hope (with captions)

If the Christmas season seems like one long night, where can you find hope?

THE BRINGER is a 9 minute story-poem dramatized into real life for all people and all times.
However, this original work is created especially for anyone feeling low during the holiday season, for anyone experiencing a time of sadness at any time in their life, or for anyone seeking to help and understand a loved one going through such a time.

The message is one of contrasts of--
-hope with despair,
-moving into tomorrow when it seems no way forward,
-finding faith in the midst of doubt,
-hearing and bearing the Good News in a way that honors who we are and where we've been.

We invite you to watch again and again, share this around, and let us know what you think.

The Bringer is brought to you by DisciplesNet, seeking to share the Good News of God's Love with the World.

With gratitude to the amazing work of Vicarious Visions Entertainment in video production, and especially to writer/producer Amy Grogan, who has lifted this message of hope from her own soul to share with the world.

DisciplesNet Worship #388, Advent 1: “Gathering Hope,” (Smith 12.03.2017)

Hope comes to us this first Sunday in Advent through the eyes of the Good Shepherd who wishes to gather the sheep together and care for them. Our worship today includes lighting our Advent Candle and a story to remind us to see God’s presence, of Christ’s presence in each other.
We hope that you will join us in worship, 29 minutes with song, prayer, message, and so much more you won’t want to miss. Please share….and may God bless you richly this week.

As we do every week, our time together includes a time of communion (breaking of the bread) where you may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers are given to extend to where you are. If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us. (Scroll down for an Order of Worship)

We hope that as you join us for worship you will feel a blessing from being part. Please tell friends, family, and others you know about our online church that is here with doors that are always open, walls as wide as the world, and always room at the table.

ABOUT OUR DISCIPLES SHEEP:
You may notice in our videos that we have various stuffed sheep with us in worship. To us, these are not toys, but important parts of our church.
It happened this way: When we began producing worship as DisciplesNet in November 2010, one of the first problems we recognized was that when we are speaking to the people on the other end of a camera and internet, we cannot actually see the people to whom we were speaking. It was easy to speak to the other pastors in the room, but as we prayed and preached and spoke, we instead wanted to be reminded of the people for whom we were serving—including people whose best way to attend worship might be online. We wanted to be speaking to them---and as best we could hearing and telling their stories.

So, on a whim, we set some sheep that we’d used for a children’s sermon in front of our speakers, and found that helped! Before we knew it, their number was growing. They spilled over onto the table as we spoke. They have become dear to us and no longer children’s toys— but representations of all of the sheep of God’s pasture, all of God’s children—the real people like you, whom we may not be able to see in real life, but wish never to forget are there, and are each and everyone loved by God more than we can ever comprehend. Those sheep are why we are here.

DisciplesNet Worship #386, “Got Talent” (Spencer 11.25.2017)

Do you have what it takes?  With this question in mind we join again this week in worship and invite you to join us. Our scripture comes from Matthew 25:14-30—the parable of the talents. This is one of a series reminding Jesus' followers to be faithful, talking about the Master going away, making a return, and seeing how those entrusted with an aspect of the kingdom have done. Pastor Sheila brings an inspiring message, "Got Talent?"

And as we do every week, our time together includes a time of communion (breaking of the bread) where you may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." We believe that Christ extends the invitation to all, and that we come not because we are wholly righteous, but that we are redeemed.
If you would like to share with us at the table we ask that you prepare a piece of a type of bread for you, and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers are given to extend to where you are.
If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us. (Scroll down for an Order of Worship)

ORDER OF WORSHIP:

2. Opening hymn: “Stepping in the Light”
3. Prayer, with Lord’s Prayer Elder Susan
4. Hymn: “Soon and Very Soon”

6. Scripture: Matthew 25:14-20

Children, welcome! Our worship today celebrates in part the Children’s Sabbath, a time to look at recognizing the gifts of children and the role of God’s people at helping protect and preserve a place for all of God’s children in the world—because a little child shall lead them. We hope that you will join us in our 28-minute worship, with song, prayer, scripture, story, and an inspiring message from Pastor Sheila speaking from John 6:5-13.
