DisciplesNet Worship #52 brings the gift of guest preacher, Diane Spleth, holding up Jesus' parables to help us gain glimpses of God's kingdom (realm). To this worship Phoebe Spier once again shares her music with Dean Phelps backing her up on "As the Deer" and "More Precious Than Silver," and "Seek Ye First."
DisciplesNet Worship #51 celebrates the feast of St. Francis of Assissi, while exploring the meaning of Christ’s commandment to “render unto Ceasar what is Ceasar’s, and unto God what is God’s. In this week’s message, Audrey Borschel recites St. Francis’ “Canticle of the Creatures (Sun), and explores the Pharisees’ attempt to trick Jesus.… Read the rest “DisciplesNet Worship # 51, “The Third Side of the Coin” (Borschel 10 09 2011)”
DisciplesNet Worship #50 celebrates World Communion Sunday with a message from Rev. Bob Shaw, referencing incidents in Hebrew Scriptures and the Gospels, where God confirms that His vision for His people is far greater than anything mortals can imagine. On this special Sunday we celebrate and honor the traditions of all branches of the Christian community.
DisciplesNet Worship #49 revisits the Israelites wandering in the wilderness, this time angry with God because they have no water. DisciplesNet pastor Anjeanette Perkins draws some interesting parallels with our own lives. Continue reading →
DisciplesNet Worship #48 visits the story of the grumbling children of Israel and the workers in the vineyard who cry out "It's not fair!" Audrey Borschel gives this week's message of God's generosity and the call for us to do likewise.
Today's worship, a 9-11 special called "When Cultures Clash," has been created to bring those who join with us a time of peace and healing. However, while creating this, we've created it with a general theme of bringing time of prayer and healing against violent acts that have happened, and continue to happen anywhere in the world.… Read the rest “DisciplesNet Worship # 47, “When Cultures Clash,” (Phelps, 09 11 11)”
Worship #46 looks at the parable of the lost sheep from Matthew 18, looking at the sense of the Good Shepherd desiring for not a one of the sheep to be lost from the community. Dean Phelps opens our worship with the old hymn ballad tune, the Ninety and Nine, and then brings the communion message with a repeat of his description of "If You Come Up Empty," a song that reflects on another parable of being lost, that of the lost son, and a popular request for sharing at the Lord's Table.
Our Worship #45 returns to the subject of the "Great Confession" that was the theme of worship #44 message by Rev. Anj Perkins. Moving from a look at the confession's call to discipleship, this week Rev. Bob Shaw focuses on the personal side of this confession.
Our Worship #44 takes a look at the "Great Confession" of Peter and how the understanding of this confession brings believers and the church to changed lives of discipleship. DisciplesNet pastor Anj Perkins brings the inspiring message on this topic.
Join us for a timely message about being one as the body of Christ to be able to work in the world. "Tending the nets" is one of the core values of DisciplesNet, and we see it reflected in commitment to Jesus' unity prayer "that they may be one, so that the world will know that you sent me and have loved them…"
A special feature on this worship is the message of our senior pastor, Deb Phelps, filmed at the consecrated grounds of the Chapel in the Meadow. This small chapel is about 30 miles south of Indianapolis where our Disciples Net worship center is located. On these grounds, skilled Italian artisans who were Prisoners of War in 1943 built a small chapel there for worship, finding in their faith a way to connect and come together as one, despite the war. They even mixed some of their blood into the paints to personalize the artwork there. When Italian prisoners were released, the chapel continued to served German prisoners of war that remained.
Now every year in August on this weekend, the chapel's meaning and story is celebrated, so we celebrate it too, and all those who have worshiped together there in times of war and peace. We hope that some of our viewers in Italy and Germany will find special meaning in this chapel.
Other features of this video are "The Gift of Love" played by Dean Phelps, and with permission, singer-songwriter Thom Schuyler's stirring work, "One Piece of Bread."
Finally, our special prayers go out to a number of people who were injured and some killed in the collapse of a stage riggings at the Indiana State Fairgrounds during a storm not far from our DisciplesNet office.
We appreciate Disciples of Christ singer/songwriter Thom Schuyler allowing us to use his own work, "One Piece of Bread," during a special time of communion. We are deeply grateful to Thom for allowing us to use this hymn (which can be found in Chalice Praise, and on Thom's website, thomschuyler.com).
We hope you will be blessed by participating in this short time of worship especially created for those who may not be able to get to a physical church today--or may just need that extra boost this extra worship can bring. We see you. And we ask God's blessings upon you today as you join with the DisciplesNet family in worship.
