This where we gather with each other to pray, hear God’s word, and accept Christ’s invitation to the Table.

DisciplesNet Worship #848, Proper 13 (Shaw, 08.02.2026)

To watch this worship service on YouTube, click here.

When the disciples asked Jesus what they were going to do about 5000 men (plus women and children) to make sure they had something to eat. Jesus responds that "they need not go away." Pastor Bob speaks to us from Matthew 14:31-21 about "the feeding of the 5000" and how, in God's economy, there will be enough for each person.
Join us for just over 30 minutes of worship, prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, and communion. You may choose to participate or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers extend to where you are. If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us.

Matthew 13:24-30 and 36-43 is a parable Jesus told about the judgement. It is explaining, at least in part, why evil seems to be allowed to flourish for a time. Pastor Mary Beth helps us examine the parable and to understand how judgement may be very different from what we expect.

In Matthew 13:1-9 and 18-13, Jesus tells the story of a sower. One wonders what the disciples were thinking as they heard this story. We ourselves might struggle a bit to find the meanings in it. "I don’t understand myself at all", the Apostle Paul writes. He goes on to talk about the grasp that sin has upon him and other humans—how even though we know the right thing to do, we end up not doing it, and instead doing what we know is wrong. Pastor Russ helps us look at this in our worship today, looking at the question, “How Then Shall We Live?” from Romans 7:15-24.
Join us for 29 minutes of worship, prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, and communion. You may choose to participate or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." The story of Abraham being called to sacrifice his son is a puzzling one. We wrestle with the implications. "Why would God do this?" "What does this really mean?" Not all of us are called to preach, but all of us are called to share what we know of God's love for all people.
