DisciplesNet Worship #851, Proper 16 (Smith, 08.23.2026)

What comes after confessing Christ as Savior? Watching some of the worst examples might give the idea that being a Christian means judging others and deciding for the world whose beliefs are right and are wrong. Rev. Russ Smith looks at it from another angle, however, preaching from the text of Matthew 16:13-20, of the Good Confession of the disciple Peter.
Our worship service is just over 27 minutes of prayer, some favorite hymns, teaching, and communion. You may choose to participate or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers extend to where you are. If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us.

We hope that as you join us for worship you will feel a blessing from being part. Please tell friends, family, and others you know about our online church that is here with doors that are always open, walls as wide as the world, and always room at the table.

Jesus says, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few." in our scripture for today. Looking at our world today we see people longing for truth, hoping for some justice, wanting to see mercy in action and we can recognize the same fertile ground for people seeing the gospel in us. Pastor Russ speaks to us from Matthew 9:35-38 and encourages us that now is the time to be the Church that our world needs.
Join us for just over 29 minutes of worship, prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, and communion. What does it take to become great? Whether we ask that question of ourselves as individuals, or as a congregation, or as the Church throughout the world, the answer is much the same. Pastor Bob speaks to us from Mark 10:35-45 about what true greatness is and how we can become great in that way.
Join us for 30 minutes of worship, prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, and communion. You may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." "Look at the fields. They are ripe with harvest." Jesus told his disciples. That was true in their time, and Pastor Russ shows us that many of the same types of things that made that time just right for the disciples to go and share the Good News are also true of our own time. Even in a time of pandemic and raw aggression. The call from Matthew 9:35-38 still holds for those of us who are Jesus' disciples.
Join us for 30 minutes of prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, preaching as well as communion. You may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water.
