DisciplesNet's worship #81 continues in the spirit of the Easter and resurrection story, picking up that first day as the risen Jesus accompanies his followers, who don't yet know who he is, as they are on the road to Emmaus. Pastor Audrey Borschel bridges the conversation of what the risen Christ's presence meant to the disciples to what it means in our own lives, using narrative store to help us examine the presence of Christ with and in each of us.
For this worship after Easter Sunday, again this year we focus our message upon Jesus' disciple Thomas, who in often just described by the unfortunate label, "doubting Thomas." At DisciplesNet we try to describe each other as God's children without judgment-causing labels before their name, and also try not to use the lens of any one event or characteristic that the world might label them by.… Read the rest “DisciplesNet Worship # 80, “Thomas the Builder” (Hill 04.15.2012)”

Our DisciplesNet worship video #26 was created for Maundy Thursday worship of Holy Week in 2011. Maundy Thursday was named in Christian tradition for 'mandatum novum,' Latin for "new commandment," which is at the heart of the last moments Jesus spent with his disciples, and his commandment that his disciples love one another.
In that tradition, our worship uses some of the symbolic acts of that last night, including washing of the feet, and breaking of the bread. Richard Propes' leads the washing of the feet, symbolic of servant leadership, from his Church of the Brethren background. Bob Shaw brings the words from the table. In watching the scenes from our worship, we invite those watching online to imagine servant leadership from within your own context.
An extra special gift on this video is the inspiring message, "In That Moment," by Janet Spaulding, her first for DisciplesNet.
We hope you will feel blessed by your time spent with us in this Maundy Thursday service, and go away with a sense of Jesus' presence in this special moment together.
We invite you to join us for our Palm Sunday worship, with the message given for our DisciplesNet listeners by New Testament scholar and professor, Ronald J. Allen, who is also an ordained minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Ron Allen is the Nettie Sweeney and Hugh Miller Professor of Preaching and New Testament at Christian Theological Seminary, Indianapolis, Indiana, www.cts.edu, and author of over 30 scholarly books.
Allen sheds light on the traditional Palm Sunday scripture, Mark 11:1-11, sharing some cultural insight as to what they Jewish crowd may have seen and felt as they welcomed Jesus into Jerusalem with leafy branches and shouts of "Hosanna!"
We invite you to join us for a short worship today looking at the gospel of John and its suspense in telling of Jesus' sense that "my time has not yet come…" and then later, that is has come. Bob Shaw is skillful in telling this story, then sharing from his own experience later in the service, of finding help in God's word and presence.
We hope you will join us in this week's worship, where Pastor Audrey Borschel skillfully knits together Old Testament and New Testament scriptures about Moses, the people of Israel, and snakes, with a fun story of her own, ending up with Nicodemus and finally "getting it" about who Jesus really is.… Read the rest “DisciplesNet Worship # 75, “Three Snake Stories” (Borschel 03.18.2012)”
DisciplesNet Church is blessed to receive the gifts of veteran pastors, retired pastors, as well as those who are just answering a call to ministry. Today we have the privilege of hearing from Andrew Moore, one who has recently stepped out in faith and his answering his call to service of God. In fact, this is the title of the sermon he brings to us today, "Who Are You Called to Serve? Accompanying Moore's inspiring message is prayer that includes a special remembrance for the people of Japan on the one-year anniversary of the terrible earthquake and tsunami that struck a year ago. Today's message offers a special sermon today, brought by Katherine Raley, seminarian at University of Chicago Divinity School who is set to graduate in later this Spring. Minister Raley offers special insight into Paul's writings in 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 which tell us that "For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." Today's message, "Things are not always as they seem," leaves us with a special wisdom in dealing the things of this world.
Special favorites in music today are one of our more requested songs of faith, "How Great Thou Art," and "Jesus, Messiah." We hope that you will sing or gives the chance to sing or follow along with the beat. Continue reading →
