DisciplesNet Worship #713: Christmas 1 – (Cobb 12.31.2023)

To watch this worship service on YouTube, click here.

Now that we've celebrated Christ's coming, what's next? In this worship service Rev Anita Cobb reminds us that God has made us "joint heirs" with Jesus; that we are graciously welcomed into God's family. Join us as Rev Cobb tells us about that grace and the responsibilities we have in responding to it.

This worship includes special opportunities to follow along in singing, prayer, and scripture. As we do every week, we will share communion together at the end of worship (breaking of the bread). We pass along the invitation to join in or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me."

If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond all earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink, such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers are given to extend to where you are If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us. This worship service can be used for either Christmas Day or for the Sunday following.
Time passes strangely in this year. It's already time for Christmas, but we may not feel ready for it. In any case, like so many things, Christmas this year will be different. Pastor Amy speaks from the story of the magi visiting the Christ child in Matthew 2:1-12 to help us see that Christmas may be delayed; it may be different; but it will come and God will be with us.
Join us for 38 minutes of worship, prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, and communion. DisciplesNet Worship #446: Christmas Day (Smith12.25.2018)

to watch this worship service on YouTube, click here.

As we celebrate the coming of Christ, the carols we sing often refer to Jesus as "the Prince of Peace." Yet we see in our world that peace is rare and fleeting. What does it mean that Jesus came as Prince of Peace and what kinds of peace does he bring? Pastor Russ uses Isaiah 9:2-7 to talk about the four ways that Jesus makes peace for us.
This Christmas service continues the theme of our Advent worship using the hymn "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel".
The theme for Christmas Day is taken from the seventh verse:
O come, desire of nations, bind
In one the hearts of all mankind
Bid Thou our sad divisions cease
and be thyself our King of peace
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel
The theme is "Jesus is the bringer of peace to the world". Jesus brings us together in one family.
Our worship today is 30 minutes long and includes a time of prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, preaching as well as communion. You may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." DisciplesNet Worship #444: Advent 4 (Grogan 12.23.2018)

to watch this worship service on YouTube, click here.

We Christians celebrate the coming of Jesus once every year, but Jesus also comes to be in our hearts. For that reason, we can celebrate Jesus coming every day of our lives. Pastor Amy speaks from Ephesians 1:15-23 about seeing Christ in us every day, giving us new insights and wisdom.
Our observance of Advent continues in the service. Advent is a time of remembering Jesus' coming to us. We observe Advent each year to remind us that, although Jesus has already come, what will fully come in God's time has not yet arrived. We still must wait and anticipate the fullness of God's rule and realm.
This year, our Advent theme uses the hymn "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel".
Each Sunday and Advent and on Christmas Day, we will have one verse from that hymn as the theme for the day.
The theme for today is taken from the sixth verse:
O come, Thou Wisdom from on high
and order all things, far and nigh
To us the path of knowledge show
and cause us in her ways to go
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel
The theme is "Jesus is the giver of wisdom". Jesus brings us knowledge of what is good and right and helps us to follow it.
Our worship today is 25 minutes long and includes a time of prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, preaching as well as communion. You may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water. DisciplesNet Worship #445: Blue Christmas (Grogan12.24.2018)

to watch this worship service on YouTube, click here.

There are many times in our lives that we struggle to believe that we belong. Jesus himself lived his life as an outsider and recognizing and welcoming those who were often left out and forgotten was a large part of his ministry. Pastor Amy speaks about those aspects of Jesus' life and shows us that, no matter how we feel and no matter who may have rejected us, God is still welcoming us.
The special Blue Christmas worship is 34 minutes long and includes a time of prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, preaching as well as communion. DisciplesNet Worship #443: Advent 3 (Shaw 12.16.2018)

to watch this worship service on YouTube, click here.

Rather than remembering the events of Jesus' birth, the third week of Advent looks at the beginning of Jesus' ministry as announced by John the Baptizer. Pastor Bob uses this text to help us see how important it is to consider that Jesus grew up to teach and demonstrate God's love and calls us to follow him in this work.
The theme for today is taken from the fourth verse:
O come, Thou Dayspring, come and cheer
Our spirits by Thine advent here
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night
and death's dark shadows put to flight
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel
The theme is "Jesus comes as the Light of the World". Jesus brings hope to a world that is dark and filled with lifelessness.
Our worship today is 24 minutes long and includes a time of prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, preaching as well as communion. DisciplesNet Church is a not-for-profit church that exists to cross barriers and boundaries to share the Good News of God's redeeming love. We rely on the gifts of our online viewers as we continue to grow and extend our nets around the world.

We also extend the invitation for you to be part of the DisciplesNet ministry by giving a one-time gift, or ongoing, including a tithe. Even the smallest of gifts, like the mustard seed, has a way of growing in amazing ways to share God's word and the love of Jesus Christ. We have a giving page on our website, disciplesnet.org, and email address: giving@disciplesnet.org

God bless you, and thank you for joining us!
