DisciplesNet Worship #791 Proper 8 – (Shaw 06.29.2025)

To watch this worship service on YouTube, click here.

Being a disciple takes a singular focus, following Jesus and not being distracted by the things of this world. It not easy, but Jesus himself gave us the great example, turning toward Jerusalem, knowing what it would cost him and facing it anyway. Pastor Bob speaks to us from Luke 9:51-62 and helps us to understand this example for when we must face our own costly times.
Join us for 30 minutes of worship, prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, and communion. You may choose to participate or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers extend to where you are. If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us.

One of the standards of this world is that people will seek power over others, but Jesus had a different image of power. Pastor Russ uses the story of Jesus before Pilate and Philippians 2:5-11 to talk about how Jesus shows us how to gain, not power to coerce, but power to do the right thing.
Join us for 30 minutes of worship, prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, and communion. When Jesus decided to go to Jerusalem, he knew very much what to expect, so when some of the Pharisees came to him to warn him that Herod wanted to kill him, he not only faced the likelihood, but even told them to tell Herod when to expect him.
This was not bravado. It was a deliberate choice on Jesus' part to confront the powers of his day.
Pastor Anita speaks to us from Luke 13:31-35 and helps us to recognize our own call to follow God into difficult and threatening circumstances.

Pastor Mary Beth speaks to us from Mark 15:1-39, the story of the political and religious powers of Jesus' day deciding to put him to death and how, even when he was silent, he never put aside his ministry. As we prepare ourselves for the coming of Easter, it is good to remember that Jesus spoke God's love in actions throughout his ministry, his trials, and his death.
Join us for 30 minutes of worship, prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, and communion. Hoping things could change, she came to see Jesus. Would she always be an outcast in her community? Was there any hope? Jesus was moved by her situation, and she found a different kind of freedom than the world offers…as also is so with you and me. We hope that you’ll join us in worship this week. Our text comes from the Gospel of Luke 13:10-17, and our message from Rev. Bill Johnson. Worship today is about 27 minutes, a time of worshipping God together through song, prayers, scripture, and considering God's word together.

To watch this worship service on YouTube, click here.

Did Jesus know at the first of the week as he entered Jerusalem that by the time it all ended, he would be put to death on a cross?  Did he know the shouts of Hosanna! that rang in his ears would be replaced by shouts of Crucify him! just days later?  Did he intentionally choose to ride on a donkey, to make a statement about leadership?
We can't know what was on Jesus' mind.  But if you join us in worship, we will look at the significance of what we've come to call Palm Sunday--in four words.  Rev. Bob Shaw brings these speaking from Luke 19. Continue reading →
