DisciplesNet Worship #760 Christ the King Sunday – (Smith 11.24.2024)

What do you think of when you think of a mighty king? You probably were not thinking of a humble man who stood before the Jewish and Roman leaders on trial as "king" of the Jews. On this Sunday, traditionally called "Christ the King" Sunday or "the realm of Christ" Sunday, we struggle with the image of a King who faced the worst powers of his world. Pastor Russ speaks to us from John 18:33-37 about the true power of that man, Jesus.
Join us for just under 30 minutes of worship, prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, and communion. You may choose to participate or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers extend to where you are. If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us.

We call Jesus our king, but Jesus was a king in a very different way than others. His kingdom was based on love, not power. His power was based in making us all we are meant to be, not in forcing us to follow a cold set of rules. Pastor Russ speaks to us from John 18:33-37 to show us how Jesus is a different kind of king.
This worship service is just over 28 minutes of worship, prayer, scripture, a few favorite hymns, and communion. You may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water.
