DisciplesNet Worship #760 Christ the King Sunday – (Smith 11.24.2024)

To watch this worship service on YouTube, click here.

What do you think of when you think of a mighty king? You probably were not thinking of a humble man who stood before the Jewish and Roman leaders on trial as "king" of the Jews. On this Sunday, traditionally called "Christ the King" Sunday or "the realm of Christ" Sunday, we struggle with the image of a King who faced the worst powers of his world. Pastor Russ speaks to us from John 18:33-37 about the true power of that man, Jesus.
Join us for just under 30 minutes of worship, prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, and communion. You may choose to participate or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers extend to where you are. If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us.

DisciplesNet Worship #601: Reign of Christ (Smith 11.21.2021)

We call Jesus our king, but Jesus was a king in a very different way than others. His kingdom was based on love, not power. His power was based in making us all we are meant to be, not in forcing us to follow a cold set of rules. Pastor Russ speaks to us from John 18:33-37 to show us how Jesus is a different kind of king.
This worship service is just over 28 minutes of worship, prayer, scripture, a few favorite hymns, and communion. You may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers extend to where you are. If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us.

DisciplesNet Worship #494: Reign of Christ (Shaw 11.24.2019)

to watch this worship service on YouTube, click here.

This service marks Reign of Christ or Christ the King Sunday. However, Pastor Bob uses John 18:33-37 to help us understand that Jesus is not the kind of king we're used to in this world. The reign of Christ marks not just a change in the way we think of kings and leaders but a transformation of the way we think of power as well.
Join us for 28 minutes of prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, preaching as well as communion. You may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." DisciplesNet Worship #440: (Shaw 11.25.2018)

When we call Jesus Christ our King, we mean something different from the kings of this world, who use power over others. Pastor Bob uses John 18:33-37 to show us how Jesus is "No Ordinary King."
Our worship today is 30 minutes long and includes a time of prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, preaching as well as communion.

DisciplesNet Worship #277 Christ the King (Smith, 11.22.2015)

To watch this worship service on YouTube, click here.

In your mind, try to bring up the image of a mighty king.  The Jewish and Roman leaders were doing that when they got cross-wise with the humble man standing before them on trial as "king" of the Jews.  We hope that you will join us in worship this week on what is traditionally seen as "Christ the King" Sunday or "the realm of Christ" Sunday--when we, too, struggle with the meaning of it all.  Continue reading →
