God holds me head and shoulders above all who try to pull me down. I’m headed for his place to offer anthems that will raise the roof! Already I’m singing God-songs; I’m making music to God.
Psalm 27:6, The Message Bible
Easter Sunday, March 23, 2008, was an exciting day at our church-- and a time that to this day affects how I see Easter season when it comes around each year.… Read the rest “The Mimes of Easter Times, a Devotion by Marci McGowan”

This week we continue in a time of Easter, still asking, “What Next?” for disciples who have seen the risen Lord. In this worship we look at how God guides us, beginning with the images from Psalm 23, and then how we come together under God’s guiding hand in our everyday lives and across the world. This week comes in the second week of Easter, and the church asks the question, "What next?" For answer, we start today with the idea of a children’s school activity—Show and Tell. Except in our lives, it may be the other way around: tell and show, our ways of following the Christ.
We hope that you will join us for worship, just over 25 minutes this week, with chances to join in as we sing, pray, and praise God, and listen to an inspiring message from Pastor Russ. We are the people of God together--and so glad that you are part. Continue reading →

Last week we celebrated Easter Sunday. This Sunday we continue in the season of Easter, looking at what Jesus’ disciples learned when they were hiding behind closed doors, and especially what disciple Thomas came to more fully comprehend. What can all this teach us about our own faith?
We are especially grateful today to be able to share the words of Ms. Marjorie Hill, who served in India as a missionary for over 40 years. She tells of the special ways the message of Thomas’ ministry have grown up in India, giving account of his work as he went out into the world to share the Good News of a risen Savior.

Our Holy Week service is in two parts that you can view together or first Maundy Thursday, and the Good Friday.
Each is about 15 minutes long, and remembers some of the key parts of Jesus last week.
Part 1 comes in remembering Jesus’ last night of his earthly ministry. We invite you to join us in reading scripture, singing hymns, praying, and observance of washing feet in whatever context works for you, and taking in communion.
Welcome to this Maundy Thursday service, Part 1 of our Holy Week Worship. This special worship, just under 15 minutes, comes as we near the end of Holy Week. This short worship is meant to be a special time of remembering Jesus last moments, Jesus’ last acts in his earthly ministry. As we do this, we ask ourselves to reflect on what those teachings from so long ago, but living in our hearts today, mean to us. What do these mean in each of our unique lives and set of circumstances? Think about your own situation, and also imagine someone in other situations far different from your own.
We will focus on three special areas where Jesus teachings, where Jesus taught his disciples about servanthood by washing their feet, and where he taught them about loving each other as Jesus had loved them, and as he shared with them at the table, and talked of using the bread and cup as a way to remember what he taught them.
As we read scripture, you will notice that we have alternating readers. If you would like to choose one of the parts and read along with it, please do. If you are worshiping together with others, you may wish to divide up and read different parts. We invite you to sing hymns with us as always, or mark time with the rhythm.

A lot has been written about Jesus’ last words, and as we observe Palm Sunday we will look at a few of those—but our main focus is on what Jesus did not say, and did not do. What comes to your mind? We hope you will join us as we worship, pray, sing, and praise God this week in worship, 30 minutes, with an inspiring message by Pastor Russ from Matthew 26. Whether you are worshipping as one, or in a group, as we come together we are the people of God together--and so glad that you are part.
As we do every week, our time together includes a time of communion (breaking of the bread) where you may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." We believe that Christ extends the invitation to all, and that we come not because we are wholly righteous, but that we are redeemed.
If you would like to share with us at the table we ask that you prepare a piece of a type of bread for you, and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers are given to extend to where you are.
If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us. (Scroll down for an Order of Worship)
We hope that as you join us for worship you will feel a blessing from being part. Please tell friends, family, and others you know about our online church that is here with doors that are always open, walls as wide as the world, and always room at the table.

ABOUT OUR DISCIPLES SHEEP:
You may notice in our videos that we have various stuffed sheep with us in worship. To us, these are not toys, but important parts of our church.
It happened this way: When we began producing worship as DisciplesNet in November 2010, one of the first problems we recognized was that when we are speaking to the people on the other end of a camera and internet, we cannot actually see the people to whom we were speaking. It was easy to speak to the other pastors in the room, but as we prayed and preached and spoke, we instead wanted to be reminded of the people for whom we were serving—including people whose best way to attend worship might be online. We wanted to be speaking to them---and as best we could hearing and telling their stories.
So, on a whim, we set some sheep that we’d used for a children’s sermon in front of our speakers, and found that helped! Before we knew it, their number was growing. They spilled over onto the table as we spoke. They have become dear to us and no longer children’s toys— but representations of all of the sheep of God’s pasture, all of God’s children—the real people like you, whom we may not be able to see in real life, but wish never to forget are there, and are each and everyone loved by God more than we can ever comprehend. Those sheep are why we are here.
God bless you, and thank you for joining us!

One of the most amazing stories of Jesus is when he goes to the home of his friend Lazarus, who had died a few days before, and raises him from the dead. This story is only in the Gospel of John. Some people see it literally, others see the telling of Lazarus’ story as a metaphor for the disciples of that time, and others see it through other different lenses. We invite you to worship today as we look at this passage, and the take away from it all, regardless of how we interpret the story: the love of God, the resurrection of a soul, can bring new life not just in the hear after—but in our everyday situations.

"Through Samaria! What is he thinking!" the disciples may have thought as they learned Jesus was taking the route through Samaria on the long walk back to Galilee from Judea. Regular Jewish people always took the way around that allowed them to steer clear of the Samaritans so many had come to despise.
What happens next is the subject of our worship as we look at making connections, at crossing barriers and boundaries to share the Good News of God's love for the world. We hope you will join us for worship, just over 30 minutes this week of song, prayer, scripture, and a short message.

We look at this idea today in our worship that have put together to help remind us of that super, all-important foundation that we build upon. We'd love it if you would find time to join us, just under 27 minutes, in song, prayer, scripture, and short message by Pastor Russ. Continue reading →
