As many as the stars in the sky...God told Abraham about his descendants--but how could this be when he and his wife Sarah had no children? God's word would become a family story that would connect, teach, and draw the people of the world together. We hope you will join us for a short time of worship as Rev. Amy Grogan brings us our message from Genesis 15. Worship today is about 32 minutes, including song, prayers, scripture, and considering God's word together. Continue reading →

Hoping things could change, she came to see Jesus. Would she always be an outcast in her community? Was there any hope? Jesus was moved by her situation, and she found a different kind of freedom than the world offers…as also is so with you and me. We hope that you’ll join us in worship this week. “Whoever should follow me must hate his mother and father, his brother.... Hand raises. "Uh Jesus?  Did I hear you correctly?  Just what does this mean?   And… will it be worth it?"   Our worship today looks at following Christ through the lens of one of the most misunderstood passages of scripture, Luke 14:22-33, where Jesus gives to his disciples words that have been translated into some of the most confusing lessons in scripture. Keep the faith. That’s what the book of Hebrews reminds Jesus’ followers, and the keen advice given is good even to this day. “Upon this rock, I will build the church, and the gates of hell will not prevail upon it,” Jesus told Peter. Fast forward a couple thousand years later and billions of people across the world are now part of this church. And this church has, and continues to see some of the best and worst that people have to offer. But what does it mean to wear the name Christian? To be called to follow Christ—to be “called Christians”? How can we do better, more like Christ is calling us today? Continue reading →

He stood there heartbroken. He’d followed the law his whole life, but Jesus had just told him he was coming up short, and he didn’t think he could fix it. We invite you to join us for just over 25 minutes today of worship in song, prayer, scripture, and studying God’s word. Today we look at Mark 10:17-31; the story the one often referred to as “the rich young ruler.” As you reflect on your life, are you “rich enough”? Continue reading →

It is an ancient, enduring question: “Why do the righteous suffer?” Our worship this week looks at this question through the eyes of Job, whose very name has linked with suffering.
Yet our worship and our preacher, Rev. Amy Grogan looks at this question framed in the sense of God’s soverignity and majesty. We hope that you will join us in worship this week as we work thorough Job’s question, our question, as people of God. Continue reading →

Racism, religious supremacism, fear of the “other” in all kinds of forms are sources of division that have always seemed to tear at the fabric of the Church, the body of Christ—and continue to do so today, sometimes with great viciousness. What is a Christian to do? How are Christians to respond and best share the Gospel with people of the world?
Centuries ago the Apostle Paul had a similar question in mind when he wrote to the Colossians to give his thoughts. In our worship this week we explore these words, with wisdom on how we behave as the church today, so we can be most effective at working where we live as Christ’s disciples. Continue reading →

DisciplesNet Worship #311, “We Pray for Peace” (Shaw 07.10.2016)

This past week has been one of heartbreaking violence, shootings, bombings, destruction in various places of the world, with hundreds killed. As our eyes turn to the sins of racism and violence against those with different religious beliefs, we wonder how the world could have gotten so far removed from Jesus’ teachings, “Beloved, let us love one another because love is of God.”
Our worship is designed to bring a sense of peace and hope amidst these times, with reminders of God’s peace that passes all human understanding. We hope that you will join us for this short time of inspiring message, song, and prayer. Continue reading →
