DisciplesNet Worship #402, Lent 3: (Smith 03.04.2018)

To watch this worship service on YouTube, click here.

"The cross is foolishness and scandal," the people of Paul's time said, reacting to his preaching. Pastor Russ Smith takes us through Pauls rebuttal in 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 to show us how the cross can be the wisdom and power of God for us now.
Our 25-minute worship today includes a time of prayer, scripture, singing, preaching as well as communion. You may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers extend to where you are. If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us. (Scroll down for an Order of Worship)

We hope that as you join us for worship you will feel a blessing from being part. Please tell friends, family, and others you know about our online church that is here with doors that are always open, walls as wide as the world, and always room at the table.

Christianity is not a "zero-sum game." That is to say that when one of us "wins" it doesn't mean that someone else has to "lose." Rather, we as Christians work together for the good of all. Pastor Deb discusses that in her message based on Mark 8:31-38.
Our 25-minute worship today includes a time of prayer, scripture, singing, preaching as well as communion. You may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." We see God at God's most awesome in the wonder of the universe around us. More important than being humbled, is the call that God has for us to put our smaller creative power to work in our place and time. Pastor Russ starts with Isaiah 40:21-31 to help us understand that call.

Throughout time and in our own time, the Church is in need of periodic cleaning, ridding it of those aspects that prevent people from fully experienceing the love that Jesus commanded. We hope you will join us today as we look at this difficult subject, starting with what Jesus did when a man with an "unclean spirit" approached Jesus in the synagogue. Our message today comes through Rev. Deb Phelps, using scripture from Mark 1:21-33.
Our worship today includes a time of prayer, scripture, singing, preaching as well as communion. You may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." DisciplesNet Worship #284, “Cue the Son” (Dycus, 01.03.2016)

To watch this video on YouTube, click here.

Happy New Year, and welcome to DisciplesNet Worship!  Today in this second Sunday after Christmas we continue to celebrate the birth of the Christ child.  As we look ahead for how to react in this new year in a world that seems to be spilling over with fear, hate, and trouble, our worship today draws upon the prophets of old who reminded people to not fear, but instead look to God and God's ways.   We are most honored to have Reverend Shannon Dycus bringing our message today--a friend of our DisciplesNet staff and niece of our DisciplesNet regular Rev. Charles Webb.  Rev. Dycus draws upon the popular movie, The Truman Show, and the image within it when things went wrong, to "Cue the sun!"  How would this look in your life? Our world?
