DisciplesNet Worship #721: Lent 2 – (Mullen 2.25.2024)

To watch this worship service on YouTube, click here.

In the time proceeding when Jesus was put to death, there were a number of things Jesus needed to address. One of those was to be sure his disciples understood as much as they could about who he was. Pastor Mary Beth speaks to us from Mark 9:2-9 about the transfiguration of Jesus and what the disciples and we can learn from it.
Join us for 30 minutes of worship, prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, and communion. You may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers extend to where you are. If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us.

Immediately after he was baptized, Jesus went out into the wilderness. In his time in the wilderness, he was tempted, and he was in danger. What can we learn from this time before Jesus began his public ministry? Pastor Russ speaks to us from Mark 1:9-15 and helps us recognize how we can navigate the troubling times in our lives and come out prepared to witness to God's saving grace.
Join us for just under 29 minutes of worship, prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, and communion. You may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." People were amazed when Jesus preached, in part because "He spoke with authority" and in part because of the way he handled power and authority and taught about it. Paul says, in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 that we should "rejoice always, pray constantly, and give thanks in all circumstances." How do we do that, especially in a world where joy and thanks seem so minimal, and prayers sometimes seem a weak response?

John the Baptizer's ministry took place out in the wilderness. The wilderness represents a place of testing, place where we stand revealed, and thus a place where repentance is necessary.
Pastor Bob speaks to us from Mark 1:1-8 and also refers to the children's book "Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak to help us realize our own need to give God, not just the best, but all the rest as well.
Our worship service is 30 minutes of prayer, some favorite hymns, teaching, and communion.
