DisciplesNet Worship #241, March 22, 2015

We invite you to join us on a special worship today, looking at the gospel of John and its suspense in telling of Jesus' sense that "my time has not yet come…" and then later, that is has come. Bob Shaw is skillful in telling this story, then sharing from his own experience later in the service, of finding help in God's word and presence.

For our music we have favorites, from the instrumental "I Come to the Garden," played on guitar by Dean Phelps, to hymns we hope you will join us on, "I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry," and "Little is Much" (an old hymn that may be new to many).

Today's scriptures are from John 12:20-33 (read from The Message) and Psalm 121 ) read from the NRSV). We hope you will join us for this short time of worship (30 minutes) and will be blessed by participating. Jesus comes to us in clean, well-lighted places, and in the dark moments of our lives, too. When all is said and done, we are left with the light of God's love to share wherever we go. We hope you'll join us for worship this week as we look at the light and love of Christ. Pastor Bob Shaw will be bringing our message today, based on the text John 3 14-21.

Our 26 minute worship today brings the special gifts of pastor-musician Dean Phelps, who shares three old favorite hymns with us, hopping that you will join in.
And as we do every week, we will share communion together at the end of worship (breaking of the bread). We pass along the invitation to join in or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me."

If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond all earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink, such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers are given to extend to where you are If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us. Prayer for Peace for the People of France

So many around the world have been praying for those killed and injured in violent extremism this week in Paris, France. We are praying for all who have lost their lives in these events and their loved ones, and for so many others in France and around the world who share the trauma, shock and grief at these acts of terror.

So, we put together this prayer to share, using a version of the "Prayer for Peace" once attributed to St. Francis, but now thought to have originated instead from within France around 1912. Continue reading →

Welcome to our Blue Christmas worship, made just for those who may want to recognize the special meaning of Christmas, but who don't feel all that jolly.

In this short worship, we'll be singing some contemplative Christmas songs, read the Christmas scripture from Luke 2:1-20, light our four Advent candles and the Christ candle, hear a short Christmas message from Rev. Richard Propes, and the go out singing Silent Night with candlelight photos.
