DisciplesNet Worship #745 Proper 14 – (Borschel 8.11.2024)

Jesus often challenged people with his teachings. Some were hard to hear and hard to follow. Pastor Audrey speaks to us from Ephesians 4:25-5:1 and John 6:35,41-51 about some of those hard teachings and helps us to understand how important it is to follow Jesus, especially when it's hard to do.
Join us for just over 29 minutes of worship, prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, and communion. You may choose to participate, or simply meditate as we tell of Jesus' invitation to "do this in remembrance of me." If you would like to share with us at the table that goes beyond earthly boundaries of time, place, and structure, we ask that you prepare a piece of bread of some type and a drink such as grape juice, wine, or water. As we pray, our prayers extend to where you are. If you are unable to eat or drink, you may want to use a symbolic gesture or mental symbol as you come together at this table of remembrance with us.

When King David engaged in some horrible behavior, the Prophet Nathan was called to confront him about his sin. To David's credit, when he recognized what the prophet was saying, he confessed and began the hard process of repentance, knowing full well that the consequences of his actions would still follow him for the rest of his life.
Pastor Bob speaks to us from 2 Samuel 11:26-12:13 and helps us to see what we need to do when we are confronted with sin in our lives.

Today's gospel scripture is the story of the feeding of the 5000 from John 6:1-21. Whether this is seen as a miracle of multiplication, where 5 loaves and 2 fish became enough to feed 5000 men as well as the women and children or whether you see it as a miracle of people all giving what they have. The end is the same. There was enough. Pastor Mary Beth speaks to us from this story and shows how we can trust that, even when it seems like there is only a little, God will transform us and our resources. It is enough.
Join us for just over 29 minutes of worship, prayer, scripture, a number of favorite hymns, and communion.
