In the Sunday following Epiphany, we look at Jesus use of power. God doesn't act in our world through irresistible force, but through gentle persuasive action. Jesus, as God's great example for us, acts as an agent of change, but never through force and especially never through violence. Pastor Russ leads us to God's call for us to use gentle power and so to be Christ's presence in our world in our times and places. Continue reading →

“Upon this rock, I will build the church, and the gates of hell will not prevail upon it,” Jesus told Peter. Fast forward a couple thousand years later and billions of people across the world are now part of this church. And this church has, and continues to see some of the best and worst that people have to offer. But what does it mean to wear the name Christian? To be called to follow Christ—to be “called Christians”? How can we do better, more like Christ is calling us today? Continue reading →

The Corinthians were having a tough go of getting along with each other. Know anyone like that? When anger, pride, hurt feelings, resentment, sin get between members of a church—one needs the Apostle Paul’s teachings to remind us that we can be reconciled by putting something else between us. How could Mary know as she was told she would have a son Jesus, what all that would mean? In her day and to the world? We are still pondering that question as we observe the Fourth Sunday in Advent. We are blessed to have guest minister, Rev. Dean Phelps bring our message today about God's Word in the World, and how our choices, no matter how insignificant they seem, truly matter.

Suppose the Apostle Paul could write a letter to our churches today...What might it say? Pastor Bob Shaw looks at this question today, preaching from Philippians 4:1-9. The names might be different, but so much applies to each of us as we work together today, despite our great differences (which if we are not careful, will divide us and the church).… Read the rest “DisciplesNet Worship #215, “Be of One Mind” (Shaw 10.12.2014)”
